At this webinar, we shared the initial findings from our AI and disruptive technology research, which is being carried out on behalf of HM Treasury.

The report assesses how AI and disruptive technologies will impact the financial services workforce, and its subsequent skill needs, over the next 5-10 years. Through the research, we will analyse and recommend how skills can drive growth and productivity by supporting the adoption and innovation of AI, and other disruptive technologies.

Our third Future Skills Conference, organised in partnership with TheCityUK, took place on 21 May 2026 in central London. The event focussed on the skills challenges and opportunities facing UK-based financial and related professional services.

The conference brought together industry leaders, policymakers and emerging talent to explore how disruptive technologies are reshaping financial and related professional services, the skills required to harness this change, and the actions needed to secure the UK’s long‑term competitiveness.

Through keynotes, panels and fast‑paced learning labs, the conference engaged delegates in discussions on the pace and scale of innovation, how to adapt to it and practical lessons for the workplace.

In front of an online audience of almost 300 Commission members, stakeholders and practitioners from across the financial services industry, we published our Annual Skills Report 2026.

Titled ‘Skills gaps: a moving target,’ our annual report on the state of skills in the sector found that technological change is placing increasing pressure on financial services firms to continually adjust their skills strategies.
